Persian Carpet

A Korean American friend of mine used to say "Oriental is a rug, I'm Asian." I've been teaching youth in asia for 6 years now and I can't remember the last time that I heard the word "Oriental." Even while playing Mainland Monopoly here in Taiwan, Oriental Avenue is called "Urumqi," which I'm sure we all know is the capital of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Life was so much simpler when I was younger so much younger than today. Back when I played with kaleidoscopes and thought they were the best thing in the world. Or was that one wild weekend in 1992?
